Switzerland

Switzerland At A Glance

At the top of my list of favorite European countries is Switzerland. It’s simply the most beautiful, pristine, awe-inspiring country with small-town charm and the Swiss Alps as the backdrop. The trains are famous for running on time and for being efficient while whisking you off through the alps and beyond. No trip is complete without witnessing the beauty of the alps, hearing cow bells, eating Rösti and tasting the country’s famous chocolates and cheeses.

Language:

German, French, Italian, Romansch, English (in most places)

Currency:

Swiss franc. Officially CHF, also Sfr.

Best Time to Visit:

June and September are my favorite times to travel here because of fewer tourists, lower prices and good weather. July-August is the tourist high-season, with great weather, snow-free alpine trails and plenty of activiites.

Famous Landmarks:

Natural wonders (especially the Matterhorn, Rhine Falls and Jungfraujoch). Chapel Bridge in Lucerne, Chilion Castle in Montreux, Old Town of Bern and the small towns of the Berner Oberland region (Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, Gimmelwald)
