Netherlands

Netherlands At A Glance

The word “Nederland” means low-land and much of the territory of the Netherlands was reclaimed from the sea, the lakes and the rivers by its famous windmills. It is a fascinating example of engineering and creativity that formed this country. Most people just think of Amsterdam when they think of the Netherlands, but there is so much more to this wonderful country other than Amsterdam. There are many smaller towns and cities with great architecture, history and charm. The people are friendly, funny, efficient and tall. In fact, the Dutch are the tallest people in the world. They also have the most prevalent bike culture anywhere I’ve seen throughout Europe. You have to be careful when walking around the Netherlands because there are people everywhere riding bikes. Also, most Dutch speak English so it makes it easy to get around and to engage with the locals.
